Do Something Good

Pastor's Corner

Thank you.  That was good.  I really enjoyed that.  Aren’t those kind of statements fun to hear?

Encouragement is the sunshine to one’s soul.  It is the vitamins and minerals for your body.  It puts the joy in your step and the desire to keeping going.

Many, many years ago when I was in elementary school, I can still remember a sign that hung in the principal’s office.  Don’t ask me to recall why I was in his office. The sign was golden colored and the title was THE GOLDEN RULE.  I read it.  I thought it was good.

Although I grew up in the church and learned so much, I did not comprehend the Golden Rule was actually Jesus’ words, right out of the Bible.  “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”  Matthew 7:12 and Luke 6:31.

All of us, truly all of us enjoy hearing something good.  My mother in her nineties told me she feels worthless because she cannot do anything for others.  I said, “Oh mom.  I see you smiling and thanking the people around you.  I have even heard you pray with some of them.  Mom you possibly do more for some people than other people do.”  All of us with our smiles, with our thanks, with our wave of the hand can encourage others.

When was the last time you or I bought a card and mailed it to someone?  There are many cards under a dollar.

When was the last time we called anyone just to simply thank them for something?  What about Facebook?  I truly enjoy hitting the like button and letting someone know I appreciated what they posted.  But then I notice others seem to never say they like something.  And you can find out they are still reading because every once in a while they will sure tell you when they don’t like something.

I would like to encourage myself and you to think more about spreading more cheer.  Let’s help create some smiles.  Let’s help reduce anxiety and help people to fall asleep easier with a smile on their face.   Let’s pay it forward.  I’ll scratch your back, and maybe I’ll get my back scratched.  Let’s get rid of the coulda, woulda, shouldas and the excuses and grudges that might be holding us back.  Thanks for reading.  I am imagining your smile and that makes me smile
